What Is Telescope And How It Works

Telescope is an optical instrument or device used to make distant objects appear nearer either by an arrangement of lenses, or of curved mirrors and lenses, by which rays of light are collected and focused so that the resulting image is magnified.

How do telescopes work?

Telescopes works by two ways either by using lenses to focus the light at a point or by reflecting the light at a point using mirrors.
I will describe about these telescopes below.

There are two types of telescopes :
  1.  Refracting Telescope
  2.  Reflecting Telescope
Refracting Telescope

Refracting telescopes (also called Refractor) is a type of optical telescope that uses a lens as its objective to form an image of a distant objects nearer.
Below is a attached photo, have a look on it.

Reflecting Telescope

Reflecting telescopes (also called Reflector) is a type of optical telescope that uses that uses a single or a combination of curved mirrors that reflect light and form an image.
Below is a attached photo, have a look on it.

This is a basic details about telescopes. I will discuss further about these two types of telescope in details in separate topic.
